Editions
Email Gateway Security is available in two editions: bundle and standalone.
No difference in licensing
From a licensing perspective there is no difference between the editions.
Bundle
The bundle edition of Email Gateway Security includes everything in a single bundle that is required for Email Gateway Security to be able to do all its processing tasks. The main components included:
-
MetaDefender Email Gateway Security
-
Advanced Threat Prevention module
-
Zero-Day Malware Prevention module
-
Data Loss Prevention module
This document refers to bundle
This user guide is about the bundle edition of Email Gateway Security unless it is noted otherwise.
The bundle edition is recommended for the following use-cases:
-
Evaluation and PoC (for details see 2. Evaluation),
-
Simple, new production deployments.
License activation
Activating the license key in Email Gateway Security will activate all bundled components, no other steps are required.
Standalone
The standalone edition of Email Gateway Security contains the MetaDefender Email Gateway Security component only. The Advanced Threat Prevention, Zero-Day Malware Prevention and Data Loss Prevention modules can be available on a separate MetaDefender Core instance.
The standalone edition is recommended for the following use-cases:
-
Migration from v4 (for details see 3.2. Migration),
-
Complex production deployments.
License activation
The license key must be activated in Email Gateway Security.
The same license key must be activated on a separate MetaDefender Core instance to make the Advanced Threat Prevention, Zero-Day Malware Prevention and Data Loss Prevention modules available.
Scalable
The scalable edition of Email Gateway Security is a subset of the standalone edition. It contains the MetaDefender Email Gateway Security component only, but in the scalable edition multiple instances can be interconnected and use the same email history database and quarantine.
The scalable edition is recommended for the following use-cases:
-
The same use-cases as for the standalone edition, where the number of recipient exceeds the limit of a single instance.
For further details about the scalable edition see 5.15. Scalable deployment operation.
License activation
From licensing perspective each instance of a scalable architecture is licensed the same way as a standalone instance. A separate license key must be activated for each Email Gateway Security instance.
License activation
The license must be activated so that Email Gateway Security can be used to process emails.
To activate the product:
-
Go to the License page and click ACTIVATE
-
Select your activation method
-
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete activation. For online activation provide your activation key and an optional description of the deployment.
User counting
The product can be licensed by the number of users, and licensed users are counted by MetaDefender Email Gateway Security.
User limit exceeded
When the license limit is exceeded then the emails of the exceeding users will be bypassed (for details see 5.5. Bypassing).
Emails of licensed users will be processed normally.
Licensed users
Licensed users may be added manually or discovered by machine learning techniques.
To add a user manually:
-
Go to the License page and click +
