macOS Update Agent
Malware often exploits vulnerabilities within outdated applications to infect a system. Always keep your system up-to-date to prevent exploits and reduce the risk of infection.
Please follow the steps below to configure macOS Update Agent on your device. Note that the guideline can be slightly different depending on an operating system version your device is on
Step 1: Update OS Patches on your Mac
For macOS Mojave (10.14) or later,
-
Choose the Apple menu from the menu bar, navigate to the System Preferences option, then click Software Update to open the Software Update settings to check for updates.

-
If any updates are available, click the Update Now button to install them, or “More info” to see details about each update and select specific updates to install.

-
For any apps that were downloaded separately from the App Store, choose the Apple menu from the menu bar, navigate to the System Preferences option, then click “App Store” to open the “App Store.”

-
Navigate to the “Updates” page, then select the Applications to update.

For macOS High Sierra (10.13) or earlier,
-
Choose the Apple menu from the menu bar, then click “App Store” to open the “App Store.”

-
From the “App Store” toolbar, navigate to the “Updates” page.
-
Select an application you would like to update and click Update OR click Update All to update all applications. The installed version of macOS and all of its apps are up to date if there are no more updates shown.

Step 2: Turn on auto-update
For Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), OS X Lion (10.7.5), macOS Mojave (10.14) or later,
-
Choose the Apple menu from the menu bar, navigate to the System Preferences option, then click Software Update to open the Software Update settings.
-
From the Software Update settings, choose “Automatically keep my Mac up to date.”

-
This will automatically keep your macOS, and applications that were downloaded separately from the App Store, updated in the future.
For macOS High Sierra (10.13) or earlier,
-
Choose the Apple menu from the menu bar, navigate to the System Preferences option, then click “App Store” to open the “App Store.”

-
From the “App Store” toolbar, navigate to the “Updates” page.
-
Select “Automatically check for updates.”

Step 3: Re-check your device’s compliance
-
Right click the "OPSWAT Client" tray icon, click "Recheck" to enforce the agent scan device compliance data and report to the MetaAccess servers again. Note that if you are running an old agent version, you should click "Check applications security" and "Check for OS updates"

Note: If you couldn't find the agent tray icon, open Finder, search for OPSWAT Gears, and run it. Learn more
