Update configuration on Windows Update Agent

Malware often exploits vulnerabilities within outdated applications to infect a system. Always keep your system up-to-date to prevent exploits and reduce the risk of infection.

Please follow the below steps to configure Windows Update Agent on your device

Step 1: Turn on Windows Updates

If you are using Windows 10,

  • Go to Local services (click Start, type "View local services", select "View Local services")

  • Scroll and look for "Windows Update" service

  • Double click on Windows Update service and choose "Automatic" or "Manual" for the Startup type to enable Windows Update. Then hit OK.

  • Go to Windows Update settings (click Start, type "Windows Update", select "Windows Update")

  • Click on Advanced options

  • Turn on "Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows"

If you are using Windows 8.1 or ealier.

  • Go to Windows Update settings (click Start, type "Windows Update", select "Windows Update", then select "Change Settings" on the left navigation).

  • Change how often you want to install important updates to "Install updates automatically (recommended) and select an update schedule.

Step 2: Install all missing patches on your device

  • Go to Windows Update (click Start, type "Windows Update", select "Windows Update settings")

  • Click on "Check for updates"

  • If you are on Windows 10, the system should automatically download and install missing patches if they are available

  • If you are on Windows 8.1 or ealier, click on "Install Updates" to install all missing patches.

  • Restart your machine if requested

Step 3: Re-scan your device's compliance

  • Right click the "OPSWAT Agent" tray icon, click "Check application security" and "Check for OS updates" to enforce the agent scans device compliance data and report to the MetaAccess servers again. Note that if you are running an old agent version, it should be Rescan security issues and Rescan Missing patches

  • If you couldn't find the agent tray icon, go to Start and search for OPSWAT Agent and run it
