9.7 Scanning VMDK files

Nested VMDKs are not supported

VMDK files with Windows and Linux filesystems are supported.
When VMDK images are selected for scanning, Kiosk traverses all the files inside.
The number of files inside VMDK images is typically high.
Ensure that settings in Core allow scanning large amounts of files, if scanning for files within a VMDK is an expected part of the workflow.
Users should also be aware that scanning may take a significant amount of time.

For VMDK images with Linux filesystems, preprocessing is necessary, which will be displayed to users before scanning begins.
Hard disk free space of 1.5 times the total file size of the original VMDKs is required.
After preprocessing the VMDKs, scanning take places the same as other types of files.
