Can MetaDefender Core v3 scan attachments from within a PDF file?

MetaDefender Core has aimed with two technologies to detect and process malware within a PDF target file:

  1. Deep CDR: This technology sanitizes all potential or unknown threats from target files such as PDF, Office documents and over 90+ others. Deep CDR can be enabled and configured through the MetaDefender Core’s workflow rule.

  2. Multi-scanning: MetaDefender Core delegates the scanning to the various AV engines, many of which are capable of detecting threats in a PDF file. According to our testing, the following engines can scan attachments from within a PDF file:

  • Quick Heal

  • F-prot

  • Ahnlab

  • ClamAV

  • Ikarus

  • Sophos

  • TrendMicro

  • TrendMicro House Call

  • Symantec

  • NANOAV*

Note: For NANOAV engine, You need to enable the extract_archive option in MetaDefender Core. For more details, please refer to this article: https://onlinehelp.opswat.com/corev3/Engine_Specific_Configuration.html
