How to use system proxy settings and bypass list with OPSWAT Central Management version 7.5.0?

OPSWAT Central Management version 7.5.0 adds the feature to configure OPSWAT Central Management's proxy server separately from the system settings.
This version also includes the feature to automatically adopt the operating system settings' proxy bypass list, as support for bypass list configuration is not supported by OPSWAT Central Management yet.
The following guideline aims to provide step by step instructions on how to properly configure proxy settings.

Setting system proxy:

OPSWAT Central Management currently supports the following methods to set system settings' proxy server and bypass list:

  • On Windows, use the command netsh winhttp set proxy proxy-server="<name> " bypass-list= "<list" in cmd or powershell.
    For example:
    netsh winhttp set proxy proxy-server=" 192.168.2.2:8080 " bypass-list= "*.ourdomain.com;*.yourdomain.com"

Supported proxy-server format: "<domain/ip>:<port>", without specifying protocol.
    Example: proxy.test.com:8080

    Supported bypass-list format: "<domain/ip1>;<domain/ip2>".
Domain/IP range must follow Java's convention by using the wildcard characters '*' as suffix or prefix.
    Example: " 192.168.202.* ;*.yourdomain.com"

Use the command netsh winhttp show proxy to see the current system settings.

  • On RHEL, s et the environment variables http_proxy and no_proxy by adding the corresponding export lines in the file /etc/bashrc.
    For example:
    export http_proxy=192.168.2.2:8080
    export no_proxy=192.168.202.*, *.yourdomain.com

Supported http_proxy format: "<domain/ip>:<port>", without specifying protocol.
    Example: http_proxy=proxy.test.com:8080

    Supported no_proxy format: "<domain/ip1>,<domain/ip2>".
Domain/IP range must follow Java's convention by using the wildcard characters '*' as suffix or prefix.
    Example: no_proxy= 192.168.202.* ,*.yourdomain.com

OPSWAT Central Management requires a service restart, such as via the restart button on its tray icon, to adopt any changes in system settings.

Important points to note:

  • After account initialization via the setup wizard, OPSWAT Central Management version 7.5.0 will use its own proxy server configuration instead of the system settings' proxy server. If the proxy configuration is not enabled on the management console, it will not use a proxy server at all.

  • System settings' proxy bypass list will be honored.

  • OPSWAT Central Management requires a service restart to adopt any changes in system settings.

Fresh installation of version 7.5.0

On a fresh installation of OPSWAT Central Management version 7.5.0, which includes setting up a new account, OPSWAT Central Management will automatically import the existing proxy server in system settings to its own configuration, located at Server Configuration > Proxy.

Upgrading from an older version to version 7.5.0

After upgrading from older version to 7.5.0 while keeping existing data, to continue using a proxy, users will have to manually enter proxy server settings to OPSWAT Central Management's proxy configuration, located at Server Configuration > Proxy, which will be initially empty and in the disabled state.
Existing proxy bypass list in system settings will have already been applied without additional configuration steps.

Instructions for upgrading to version 7.5.0 with the new proxy configuration and proxy bypass list feature:

  1. Ensure that the proxy bypass list is set in system proxy settings, as shown in the Setting system proxy above.

  2. Perform the upgrade instruction as detailed in Upgrading OPSWAT Central Management. OPSWAT Central Management will start after the installation completes.

  3. Navigate to Server Configuration > Proxy and manually add proxy server's detail to match system proxy settings.

  4. OPSWAT Central Management should now be using the proxy servers set in Server Configuration > Proxy and the proxy bypass list set in system settings.

Changing proxy settings for OPSWAT Central Management:

  • To change the current proxy server in use:

    1. Navigate to Server Configuration > Proxy

    2. Make the necessary changes to proxy settings

      • (Optional) If the proxy server requires basic authentication, please enter the required credentials (username and password) to the corresponding fields.

      • For proxy that does not require authentication, setting credentials is not required.

OPSWAT Central Management currently only supports the basic authentication scheme.

    3. Select SAVE.

    4. OPSWAT Central Management's user interface will refresh itself and apply the new proxy server settings.

  • To modify the current proxy bypass list in use:

    1. Make changes to the bypass list according to the guideline in Setting system proxy.

Windows system requires specifying a proxy server to modify the bypass list. However, OPSWAT Central Management will use its own proxy server settings as set in Server Configuration > Proxy.

    2. Restart OPSWAT Central Management for the new bypass list settings to take effect.
